About the Role
Spotify is looking for a Staff Engineer to lead media platform architecture within Content Platform, directing technical direction from ingestion through transcoding, packaging, storage, delivery, and playback.
Key Responsibilities
- Define long-term architectural direction for Spotify's media pipeline
- Lead large-scale technical initiatives spanning multiple teams
- Partner with managers and engineers to align technical strategy with business priorities
- Guide architectural decisions across the media infrastructure stack
- Author RFCs and technical documentation
- Mentor senior engineers across the organization
- Implement cost-aware engineering practices
Requirements
- Deep expertise in large-scale media platforms covering audio, video, encoding, transcoding, packaging, delivery, and playback technologies
- Demonstrated leadership across multiple engineering teams
- Experience designing distributed systems at internet scale
- Understanding of codec and infrastructure trade-offs
- Track record leading multi-quarter technical initiatives
- Strong written communication skills
- Collaborative leadership and mentoring abilities
- Experience with cloud infrastructure and CDN vendors preferred
