Arturia offers a 6-month DSP internship (Montbonnot-Saint-Martin, near Grenoble) on modelling voltage-controlled filters (VCF) for virtual analog synthesizers.

Job description

Voltage controlled filters are essential elements of any synthesizer. Their virtual analog models often need zero-delay-feedback methods, which can have a high computational cost. You will study state-of-the-art methods for modelling VCFs. After a deep study of the electrical circuit, several approaches will be tested: iterative solvers for the underlying ODE (Newton-Raphson, Steffensen, Rosenbrock-Wanner…) compared on accuracy and performance. Previous work in the team showed that machine learning methods could replace iterative solvers (for instance in the wave digital domain); this work will be generalised to the case-study VCF and compared with the iterative solvers.

Internship objectives

Study use-case examples of a VCF requiring zero-delay-feedback modelling (SH-101 ladder filter, SEM VCF, …).
Test and compare a set of non-linear solvers, from iterative to machine learning solutions.

Profile required

Master's degree or final-year engineering school internship.
Strong knowledge of general DSP; experience in virtual analog modelling is handy; good knowledge of electrical engineering.
Python programming; some C++ experience is a plus for real-time implementation.
Good command of English (the team is international).
